About This Educational Journey

Hello! I'm planning an educational expedition to Iceland from July 21-28, 2026, focusing on studying the country's unique geothermal features, marine biodiversity, and sustainable practices.

This comprehensive 8-day journey will take us from Reykjavik to the northern town of Akureyri and through Iceland's most stunning natural wonders. We'll meet with local experts, oceanographers, and witness first-hand how Iceland harnesses renewable energy.

Your contribution will help cover travel expenses, educational activities, specialized guides, and research opportunities during this once-in-a-lifetime learning experience.

The Journey

Our comprehensive 8-day educational itinerary exploring Iceland's unique natural wonders and sustainable practices.

July 21-28, 2026

Day 1: Departure (July 21, 2026)

Fly overnight to Iceland, beginning our adventure to the land of fire and ice.

Day 2: Reykjavik

  • Meet our Tour Director at the airport
  • Visit the Whales of Iceland Museum
  • Take a walking tour of Reykjavík with our Tour Director

Day 3: Reykjavik to Akureyri

  • Travel to Akureyri via Grábrók Crater
  • Enjoy a hike to the top of Grábrók Crater
  • Take a walking tour of Akureyri, a quaint seaside town in northern Iceland

Day 4: Lake Mývatn Region

  • Full day excursion to the Lake Mývatn region
  • Visit Goðafoss, one of Iceland's most spectacular waterfalls
  • Walk along Lake Mývatn
  • Visit the Mývatn Nature Baths
  • Walk among boiling mud pots and natural hot springs at Nammafjall
  • Explore millennia-old lava formations at Dimmuborgir
  • Enjoy an Icelandic lunch at the Naturebaths

Day 5: Whale Watching & Fishing Heritage

  • Participate in a whale watching excursion
  • Visit the Herring Museum and learn about the fishing industry
  • Meet the fishermen of Ektafiskur Ehf and learn about their global trade

Day 6: Return to Reykjavik

  • Meet with a University of Akureyri Oceanographer to learn about Iceland's biodiversity
  • Travel via Gauksmyri Farm to Reykjavík
  • At Gauksmyri, learn about Iceland's unique horses first-hand

Day 7: Golden Circle & Geothermal Energy

  • Visit Thingvellir National Park
  • See the magnificent Gullfoss Waterfall
  • Experience the Stokkur Geysir and Geothermal area
  • Visit the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant
  • Tour Fridheimar Farm and see a greenhouse powered by geothermal energy

Day 8: Blue Lagoon & Departure

  • Excursion to Alftanes peninsula
  • See Bessastaðir, official residence of the president
  • Visit Hafnarfjörður and Lake Kleifarvatn
  • Witness geothermal activity in Krísuvík geothermal field
  • Relax in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon
  • Board our flight for home
